Post 16 at Queensmead is known for its high academic standards and excellent pastoral support.

As well as academic study, students are provided with an excellent range of enrichment activities to allow further personal development.

The Social Committee meets weekly organising activities and social nights for the Post 16 students. Events such as ‘Games Night’, theatre trips, the Christmas Quiz and May ball are highlights of the social calendar. The students have exclusive use of the Queensmead sports centre gym every afternoon with a Girls night on Tuesdays. There are also excellent opportunities to be involved in Music, Drama and Sports activities and involvement in the Hillingdon Youth Council and Forum at school ensures that the Post 16 views are heard.

Post 16 students have a well established tradition of service to life at Queensmead. Senior students gain valuable personal experience as Ambassadors when they receive guests to the school and show visitors around. They also act as role models for younger students.

Here at Queensmead we have a strong tradition of voluntary work in the wider community and we encourage pupils to use their skills and talents to help others. Post 16 students undertake Community Service for 1 hour each week in a wide range of placements. These include:

  • Developing skills to support younger students through paired reading
  • assisting in primary schools
  • working with young people with special needs
  • helping in charity shops
  • coaching football and rugby
  • helping at Boyne Care home
  • classroom assistants

Our Post 16 students recognise that they gain a great deal of satisfaction from the work they do in community service, and in many cases this experience helps them to decide their future career path. They also develop a range of important skills through their placements, which will be invaluable as they progress to university and the world of work.
