Advanced
Subsidiary / Advanced Level Courses
Applied advanced level and National
Diploma courses are offered as follows :
Advanced
Subsdiary/Advanced level Courses - Two Years
A student wishing to start an
AS/A2 course should have achieved higher grade GCSEs including
Mathematics and English. In the actual subjects that you
wish to study at AS or A Level, GCSE Grades A*, A or B
are recommended, however, each student will be considered
individually.
We would expect the majority of
students to choose four AS subjects to study in Year 12.
For this, students need to have achieved seven A* - C
grades at GCSE with four A* - B grades in the proposed
subjects. Students may then continue with three subjects
to Advanced Level in Year 13.
The following Advanced Level subjects
likely to be on offer are:
Applied Advanced Level Courses - Two Years

Applied AS/A2 courses should have completed compulsory
education to the age of sixteen and have a minimum of
five GCSE passes at Grades A*, A, B or C.
Students may wish to study an
additional AS/A2 subject with an Applied AS/A LEVEL, grade
B or above would be required in the relevant subject although
students will be considered individually.

BTEC National Diploma In Early Years
(Nursing) - Two Years
Students wishing to follow this
two year course should have completed compulsory education
to the age of sixteen and have a minimum of five GCSE
passes at Grades A*, A, B or C or should have acquired
an Intermediate GNVQ or First Diploma at Merit or Distinction
level.
BTEC First Courses - One Year
Students
wishing to follow a one-year BTEC course should have satisfactorily
completed compulsory education to the age of sixteen and
have passed GCSE subjects with grades D and E.
BTEC courses develop the knowledge,
understanding and skills needed for broad areas of work
and prepare students for further study. They are equivalent
to four GCSE passes at grades A* - C.
Courses avalible at Level 2 are based on student demands.
Whether
a course is offered in an Advanced Subsidiary, Advanced
Level, Applied AS/A2 or BTEC subject depends each year
on estimates of likely student demand. It is, therefore,
important that students clearly identify at an early stage,
what they wish to study in Years 12 and 13. Every
effort can then be made to enable students to follow their
chosen course. However, insufficient numbers, timetabling
constraints and the pattern of student choice may prevent
all requests being met. Adjustments in choice pattern
may therefore be necessary in July and September.
